Split ends also known as trichoptlosis which are found at the bottom end of your cutting line
occur when the protective hair cuticle is damaged.
Hair cuticle is the outermost part of the hair shaft which is the first line of defense against
all forms of damage.
Cuticles are often damaged by excessive mechanical manipulation such as brushing, using
heat or chemicals.
When hair is allowed to remain brittle, dry and under moisturized for extended periods of
time, the cuticle begins to crack and unravel, exposing the cortex of hair.
This damaged hair shaft then split into multiple strands and can be up to an inch in length.
As your damaged hair grows, the protective oils of your scalp may not be able to get to the ends of your hair.
Once split ends start on your hair, they continue to split back up the hair towards the scalp.
Some hair types are more vulnerable to split ends especially dry hair.
If you think that hair is not growing fast, split ends can also be the one of the reason.
USE OF HEATING TOOLS:
It is the number one cause for the split ends.
It rapidly depletes moisture balance and affects the protein structure within the hair shaft.
Frequent use of heating tools increases your chances of cuticle damage.
What is the minimum care that should be taken if you can’t style your hair without heating.
Use ceramic or tourmaline heating tools. These tools provide even and controllable heat.
Always be sure to use protectant or high temperature serum before any application of heat.
Use heat on clean and freshly deep conditioned hair only.
Blow drying should be kept to a minimum and maintain 8-12 inches away from the hair.
Hooded dryer heat takes longer to dry hair but it is much safer and healthier than blow drying.
Apart from frequent usage of heat implements, poorly made styling tools can also cause our hair to become more susceptible for cuticle damage.
Rubber bands, cotton headbands, metal clasps, serrated combs, sharp hair pins all put the hair in danger of splitting at all points along the shaft.
If you use these hair styling tools on the same spot on your day in and day out, you are asking for cuticle damage in that area.
Then what should be used instead ??
Use seamless and handmade combs.
Use boar bristle or baby brush for combing instead of nylon hair brushes.
Avoid rubber bands and holders made out of polyster type or cotton fabrics that absorb moisture from the hair.
Instead use silk and satin holders.
Shampoos that are too harsh will reduce the moisture content on your hair.
Frequent usage of cuticle stripping shampoos may cause the hair to become more vulnerable to splitting over time.
Always use gentle shampoos, preferably sulfate free.
If hard water conditions or frequent swimming require you to use clarifying and chelating
shampoos regularly, make sure your protein and moisturizing regimen in on point to counteract
the cuticle wear and tear.
ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE FROM SUN, COLD, WIND & OTHER CLIMATE ISSUES:
Sun is another moisture eliminating element.
Its oxidative effects on hair can make splitting problems more badly.
Photochemical damage is most likely to happen when your hair is kept damp (slightly wet) for longer periods of time.
So avoid prolonged periods of sun time if your hair is damp.
Be sure thoroughly dry the hair before heading out into the sun.
Deep conditioning, moisturizing the hair is extremely important for protecting against damage from the elements if you live in an extreme climate.
RUBBING WITH TOWEL/CLOTHES:
After shower many people are habited to rub their hair with towel for hair dry.
This causes friction between your hair follicles and causing them to break.
Squeeze the water out with your towel instead of rubbing your hair.
Over washing of your hair also leads to split ends.
Most of the people while shampooing they rub shampoo at the ends also.
This may lead to split ends which occurs by rubbing your hair.
Many people clump all of their hair into big pile on their top and begin to scrub.
This unnatural bending and rubbing of hair also leads to split ends.
Shampooing should be done on scalp only.
The chemicals that are used in the coloring products also damages and degrades the hair cuticle.
When the cuticle is broken down, weakend and compromised splitting of hair soon follows.
So, more protein and moisturizing deep conditioning treatment should be done more regularly in order to protect hair against split ends.
OVER BRUSHING AND BACKCOMBING:
It pulls up the scales of your hair and when you comb/brush that section again
the scales break off.
Over brushing may lead to more splits than anything else.
Chlorine weakens the hair by forming sacs of dissolved protein which burst through the cuticle thereby leading to split ends and cracks.
The salt that is left on hair from the chlorinated water dries into hard crystals also degrades cuticle.
HAIR SHEARS OR SCISSORS:
One other often overlooked cause of split ends is your pair of sheers.
Trimming your hair with regular pair of scissors will damage your freshly cut ends.
You want to find shears that are made specifically for trimming the hair as these tend to be
sharper than other types of scissors.
COMBING/BRUSHING ON WET HAIR:
Your hair is most likely to break or split when it is wet.
So avoid brushing on wet hair.
But unfortunately brushing is inevitable, so use wide toothed comb.
EXCESSIVE TANGLING OF HAIR:
NO REGULAR TRIMMING:
The best way to identify split ends is simply inspecting the hair shaft.
Most split occurs along the lower ½ to 1/3 of the hair shaft.
When split ends are present, the hair:
Shows clear areas of dullness or thinness.
Varies in length throughout the head.
Increase in overall hair breakage.
Doesn’t hold a curl or straighten well with heat.
While there are number of products which claim to cure split ends.
All they really do is “hide them”.
The product temporarily seals the split end of the hair.
This can make hair look neater and healthier for a short while it may cause more damage
This can be used as a temporary solution if you want to grow your hair a little longer before trimming but should not be used as a solution for split ends.
The only way to get rid of split ends is to cut them off.
It is better to get trimmed in saloon.
Anyways here is also procedure how to remove on your own.
To remove split ends use one of the following methods:
Take small sections of hair and twist them carefully in a downward motion. Any split ends will stick out. Cut off split ends with sharp scissors.
Take small sections of hair and hold between three fingers, with the hair section over the middle one and below the side ones. Split ends will stick out. Cut them off with sharp scissors.
You must cut about 1/4 of an inch above the top of the split.
You may notice a little ball or dot near the split and if you do not cut above this dot then the damage will not have been removed and the split end will only return.
Never trim the hair at an angle. Trimming at slant increases the chances of re-splitting.
Deep condition your hair every week with any oil of your own choice.
Use alcohol free shampoos.
Wash your hair after excess sweating. Salt from sweating will erode your hair.
Do not use metal combs and do not use brushes that are missing a tooth.
Avoid excess heat and brushing .
Protect your hair from sun which will dry out your hair.
When shampooing wash your scalp only and condition ends.
Honey, egg yolk and olive oil:
Mix a tablespoon of honey with 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
Massage on hair in small sections.
Cover your hair with a shower cap to lock the moisture.
Leave it for 30 minutes and wash with a wild shampoo.
Oiling restores hair moisture.
Massaging your scalp with coconut oil, olive oil or almond oil or a combination of these three is very good for your hair.
It’s best to leave it overnight
If in a hurry, at least keep it for an hour and then wash with a mild shampoo.
Papaya is rich in proteins which your hair needs in order to maintain its shine,
moisture and growth.
Mash two medium slices of papaya.
Mix two tablespoons yogurt in it, and apply to your scalp and hair.
Cover your hair with a shower cap to lock the moisture.
Leave it on for 30 minutes and then wash with shampoo.

The more we know, the better chance we could survive.
It is popular in Japan today to drink water immediately after waking up every morning.
Furthermore, scientific tests have proven its value.
Here is the description of use of water for our readers.
For old and serious diseases as well as modern illnesses the water treatment had been found
successful by a Japanese medical society as a 100% cure for the following diseases:
Headache, body ache, heart system, arthritis, fast heart beat, epilepsy, excess fatness,
bronchitis asthma, TB, meningitis, kidney and urine diseases, vomiting, gastritis,
diarrhea, piles, diabetes, constipation, all eye diseases, womb, cancer and menstrual
disorders, ear nose and throat diseases.
METHOD OF TREATMENT:
As you wake up in the morning before brushing teeth, drink 4 glasses of water.
Brush and clean the mouth but do not eat or drink anything for 45 minute.
After 45 minutes you may eat and drink as normal.
After 15 minutes of breakfast, lunch and dinner do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours.
Those who are old or sick and are unable to drink 4 glasses of water at the beginning may commence by taking little water and gradually increase it to 4 glasses per day.
The above method of treatment will cure diseases of the sick and others can enjoy a healthy life.
Arthritis patients should follow the above treatment only for 3 days in the 1st week, and from 2nd week onwards daily.
This treatment method has no side effects, however at the commencement of treatment you may have to urinate a few times.
It is better if we continue this and make this procedure as a routine work in our life.
Drink hot soup or warm water after meal and stay healthy and active.
For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you.
It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal.
However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed.
It will slow down the digestion.
Once this sludge reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food.
It will line the intestine.
Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer.
It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.
A serious note about heart attacks:
Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting.
Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.
You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack.
Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.
60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up.
Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let’s be careful and be aware.

Winter weather affects your skin in several ways.
Dry skin is the most common result of seasonal weathering.
Cold weather air lacks humidity and dries up natural oils in your skin, causing it to lose moisture.
This leads to rough, cracked skin that can feel tight and uncomfortable.
Winter weather not only irritates healthy skin but also can make current skin problems worse.
Do not worry. All such problems can be kept away by taking a little care of your skin
during this season.
Understanding about windburn:
Wind can cause unpleasant skin condition known as windburn.
As the sunburn, windburn can leave you skin red, raw and blistered.
So try to protect your skin from windburn by following these tips.
Choose oil based moisturizer rather than water based.
Oil based moisturizers will create protective layer on skin that retains more moisture
than a cream or lotions.
Apply to your face as well as body and at least thrice a day, especially before going to bed.
SHIELD YOUR LIPS:
Use as a good petroleum jelly as a weather shield for your lips.(OR)
Use a lip balm with at least SPF 15 and preferably one with antiseptic agents to aid in healing.
Some lip balm products are made with tea tree oil which helps to heal painful cracks.
At times, butter can also be used to get extra softness and to cure chapped lips.
Apply and massage any essential oil of your choice either it is coconut or
olive oil to your face, hands ,legs and rest of your body before having a shower.
If time permits heat oil and apply.
After shower, use a light moisturizer/sunscreen as winter sun is not any less harsh.
LIMIT USING SOAP TO MILD CLEANSER.
Winter dryness is caused due to loss of moisture from skin during winter.
If you wash your face with soap, it can strip essential oils you need.
If y ou are using soap then use a creamy one which will supplement extra suppleness
to your skin or use any mild cleanser.
THEN WHAT TO USE INSTEAD OF SOAP??
To clean your skin, make use of green gram paste instead of soap.
Its regular use would leave you soft and supple skin.
PRODUCTS TO BE USED DURING WINTER:
Use products containing shea butter, petrolatum, mineral oil, tea tree oil or glycerin.
Apply cucumber juice on affected area for 10 minutes every day.
It contains lots of water which helps to hydrate your skin.
YOGURT, HONEY AND LIME:
Curd makes for an excellent skin hydrant which helps to soothe your dry and itchy skin.
Mix required amount of yogurt, tablespoon of honey and few drops of lime and mix it well.
Apply this mixture to your skin and leave it around 20 minutes.
AVOID USING TOO HOT WATER:
The intense heat of hot shower actually breaks down the lipid barriers in the skin which can lead
to a loss of moisture and also lessens skin’s natural oils.
So, it’s better to use luke warm water.
To retain lost moisture, add few drops of oil to the water that would be used in bathing.
APPLY OLIVE OIL/ ANY VITAMIN E OIL:
The fats present in the olive oil have a similar composition to the fat cells present in the skin.
The vitamin E in it helps the skin fight free radicals which are generally responsible for bad skin.
Applying olive oil over dry skin will also reduce the dryness of the skin.
HOW TO TREAT YOUR LEGS AND HANDS:
To treat , add a few oil drops in the water and soak your legs in the water. your legs
For hands, use rubber gloves while exposing them to water.
Always cover your nails by applying base coat on them.
LIMIT MASKS AND PEELS TO CLEANSING MILK OR MILD CLEANSER:
If your facial skin is uncomfortably dry, avoid using harsh peels, masks and alcohol-based toners
or astringents all of which can strip vital oil from your skin.
Instead, find a cleansing milk or mild foaming cleanser, a toner with no alcohol, and masks that
are deeply hydrating rather than clay-based which tends to draw moisture out of the face.
Try to use them a little less often during this winter season.
AVOID WET GLOVES AND SOCKS:
Wet gloves and socks can irritate your skin and cause itching, cracking, sores etc.
Sunscreen is not only for summer.
Winter sun combined with snow glare can still damage your skin.
Try to apply sunscreen about 30 minutes before going outside and reapply frequently if you stay
outside for a long time.
AVOID SKIN PRODUCTS THAT DRY OUT YOUR SKIN:
Avoid skin care products that contain ingredients that dry out your skin.
Such ingredients to be avoided would be fragrance oil, alcohol and other harsh
USE OF SANDALWOOD:
Peeling skin can also be caused by bacteria present on the skin.
It has anti-microbial properties and can kill bacteria in the skin.
Use sandalwood soap or apply sandalwood paste to your skin to get rid of peeling skin.
Continue to drink lots of water to provide necessary hydration to your skin.
Honey has antioxidant, anti-microbial properties and also contains fructose, water, oil, glucose
and enzymes which acts as natural skin moisturizers.
Massage your face with honey and leave it for about 20 minutes.
There is nothing better that your skin can ask for.
OATS WITH EGG YOLK:
Take one egg yolk and some oats in it and make it into fine paste.
Apply it on your face and leave it for 20 minutes and wash with cold water.
This will provide moisturizer to your face.
APPLY COLD MILK:
Applying cold milk with the help of cotton ball over the skin is also effective and gives relief
from the irritation of skin.
MUSTARD OIL WITH SESAME AND OLIVE OIL:
Take equal parts of olive, mustard and sesame oil and mix them.
Use this mixture of oils over the body and massage gently till the time the oils gets absorbed
into the body.
HONEY AND MILK:
Add some honey in required amount of milk and stir it until you get a thick substance.
Apply this mixture to your skin and leave for 15-20 minutes.
VITAMIN A FOOD SOURCES:
Vitamin A is needed to avoid getting winter dryness.
Hence include vegetables and fruits that are rich source of vitamin A.
YOGURT, HONEY AND EGG YOLK:
Take on egg yolk and add required amount of yogurt and honey and mix it.
Apply it over your skin and leave it around 20 minutes.

Add few drops of rose water/lime to raw milk.
Apply it all over your body and leave it for 15-20 minutes and wash with cold water.
Do this daily, your skin will feel baby soft.
APPLY ALOE VERA:
Aloe vera is super good for your skin; it will not only moisturize your skin it will also protect
your skin form protective layer that will keep impurities entering your skin.
Squeeze gel from piece of aloe and apply onto your face, hands, legs.
Leave it on your face based on your time, no problem if you leave for long hours also.
Although aloe is good skin hydrant, it can leave your skin tight. So you might have to apply
GLYCERIN WITH LEMON:
Glycerin helps absorb and retain moisture.
Mix a tablespoon of glycerin with few drops of lime and massage onto your skin.
Leave it for 15-20 minutes and wash with cold water.
Coconut milk not only reduces skin dryness, but also helps to reduce dark spots and blemishes.
Rub it on your face and body and leave it overnight.

Homemade hair thickening remedies work either by temporarily adding volume to each shaft of
hair or by creating a healthy scalp environment where more hair can grow.
In some cases, results are immediately visible but they are generally short-lived.
For the best results, use a homemade hair-thickening remedy on a regular basis.
After shampooing, massage an egg white into your hair and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes.
The non hydrolyzed protein in an egg mimics the hydrolyzed proteins in hair
Wash your hair with cold water.
A mixture of lemon juice and egg white and oil massage could also be used to strengthen the
roots of hair.
Mix 1 tablespoon of white or apple cider vinegar with 1 pint of water.
Massage this mixture into your hair.
The solution temporarily changes the chemical balance of your hair and make it appear thicker
Scalp massages with any essential oil are thought to help rid the scalp of
debris and excess sebum and dirt resulting on cleaner thicker hair and healthy follicles.
Massaging the scalp also increases blood flow to the scalp, which may encourage healthier,
thicker hair growth.
Rub oil into the scalp before bedtime and leave it on overnight.
Wash with a mild shampoo in the morning and style as usual.
Using a tablespoon or fresh aloevera gel squeezed directly from the leaves either alone or with a mixture of raw egg, may make your hair appear thicker.
Apply the gel or mixture once every two weeks and shampoo as usual.
A leave on conditioner made from flax seeds and water may temporarily thicken hair.
Soak a handful of flax seeds in water for 1-2 days and apply the water directly to your scalp with
a cotton ball before styling.
